Beloit Meals on Wheels recently received a Meals on Wheels Loves Pets grant for $2,500. We all likely have witnessed the undeniable bond between a senior and their pet. Research shows that seniors with pets are less likely to exhibit depression, report feelings of loneliness and experience illness. But taking care of a pet – feeding, grooming and veterinary care – can be financially and physically burdensome to seniors.
More often than not, a devoted animal lover with limited access to food will feed their hungry pet before they feed themselves. The Meals on Wheels Loves Pets, is just another way that Meals on Wheels can deliver so much more than just a meal. This grant award can be used for pet food and treats, pet supplies, cat litter, grooming, veterinary care, temporary boarding expenses, pet food storage and gas for volunteers to deliver pet food.
