Community Days Fundraiser
This year we were asked by Elder Beerman to participate in their Community Days event fundraiser for nonprofits. Between October and November 11th, we sold 192 coupon booklets, raising $980! Plus we received a bonus check recently from The Bon-Ton Stores of $254! A big shout out goes to our board of directors and many volunteers who helped sell the coupon booklets!
Girls Night Out
Thank you to all the ladies who came out on November 15th for Girls’ Night Out to benefit Beloit Meals on Wheels. We raised $4,163 in three hoursand had 204 attendees – what an amazing feat! Thanks to everyone who donated baskets for the raffle and for all the dedicated volunteers who helped behind the scenes delivering & displaying the baskets; working at registration, and selling raffle & 50/50 tickets! A big shout out to all the GNO hostesses and to The Beloit Club for hosting the event, for donating the delicious appetizers, and providing the exciting ambiance!
Loads 2 Success Program
We are partnering with the Loads to Success program which is run by the Beloit Memorial High School Special Education students. This program helps instill life skills and empowers the students on how to be independent by teaching them how to properly sort, clean, and fold laundry. It’s a program that benefit not only students who don’t have access to laundry, but also Meals on Wheels clients when doing laundry becomes a safety issue and a difficult chore. This program is available during the academic year (September through May) when school is in session. Loads 2 Success can launder clothes, sheets, towels, undergarments, etc., and can accommodate fragrance free detergent if requested. We will be offering this to our homebound clients beginning in January.

Subaru Share the Love Event – Blizzard Boxes
Many thanks to Subaru of America for inviting Meals on Wheels to once again participate in its annual Share the Love Event. For every new Subaru vehicle leased or sold, Subaru will donate $250 to the customer’s choice of participating charities. Meals on Wheels America is one of four national participating charities and has been since the inception of the event. Through this campaign, as a Member of Meals on Wheels America, Beloit Meals on Wheels will receive a share of the revenue earned in Wisconsin. If you’re in the market for a new car, please look into the Share the Love Event to learn more
Every year we prepare our blizzard boxes for our homebound clients during the Share the Love Event. What exactly is a blizzard box? It’s a box of nonperishables that’s delivered to our clients that can be stored away and sit on a client’s shelf if the weather prevents regular meal delivery. We kicked off the event on November 16thwith Mrs. Hubner’s 4th & 5th grade class at St. James Catholic School in Rockford who created their colorful “share the love” inspirational cards to insert in our blizzard boxes. In December, the Turner Middle School first hour classes had a competition and collected 1300 pieces of nonperishable items for our blizzard boxes – the most the school has ever raised in a food drive! On December 27th, volunteers packed 90 blizzard boxes and they were distributed to our clients on the 28th! Our clients are really depending on us to have meals delivered every single day … and there may be times when we’re just not going to be able to get our meals out there if the weather turns ugly. Many thanks to the following businesses who donated items for the boxes: Hormel, Walgreens on Broad Street, Seneca Foods in Janesville, Tricor Insurance, North Atlantic Specialty Bag, Beloit Culver’s, St. James Catholic School, and Turner Middle School.
Pet Meals on Wheels Distribution
On Friday, December 15th, we distributed almost 500# of pet food and supplies to 25 pets of our Meals on Wheels clients. We were able to do this thanks in part to grants from the Beloit Rotary Club and Meals on Wheels America. A big shout out to volunteers John & Joyce Fitzsimmons and Dan & Sharon Summers for taking time out of their busy schedules and making this delivery possible. The volunteers really enjoyed this and it allowed a little more time for them to visit with our clients. Many thanks to our partner, Bubbles & Bows, who helped organized the inventory and holding a pet food drive for us. If you have any pet food and supply donations, feel free to drop them off at our office, at Bubbles & Bows located in South Beloit and Janesville, or American Dwellings Realtors in Roscoe.
Green Bay Packer Foundation Grant Award
We were recently awarded a $3,500 grant from the Green Bay Packer Foundation. This grant money will help subsidize meal costs for those clients unable to contribute to the cost of their meals.
